Crafty. Desertrose a witty and clever gal. She's good when it comes to strategies and tactics, especially in combat. She is a swift thinker on her feet and is able to react just as quickly. Desertrose can become very creative in stressful situations that has limited resources available.
Independent. Desertrose can hold herself very well. Of course, when you're in a position of power, it's an expected and required trait to posses when in such a position. She can take on her own problems, as well as shoulder the issues of others. This can hinder her at times, however, because she'll overwork herself relentlessly and fail to pay attention to her very own wellbeing.
Devoted. Desertrose is devoted deeply to her clan and it would take more than all the prey in the forest to make her betray it. She tries to find ways to constantly aid her comrades and try to make things better for them in any way she can. However, she only really pays attention to the major issues of the clan and tends to ignore the petty little things like "he said, she said" sort of things.
Patient. Desertrose has an impressive patience to her name. Especially now with the aging Smokestar, Desertrose is putting her patience to the real test. Her and a couple of the senior warriors have tried to convince the elder leader to step down, but stubborn Ol' Smokey just refuses give up his position and keeps claiming that he's more than capable to lead the clan.
Temper. Desertrose can be bit snappish, despite her ability to be patient. Pending on the thing she's waiting for, of course. Maybe the only reason she isn't snappy toward Ol' Smokey is cause he's higher ranked than her, despite his elderly age. Either way, being on Desertrose's bad side is never a wise thing to do. She personally goes through all the trouble of making the offending person suffer.
Love. That word is a joke in Desertrose's vocabulary. Sure, she's had crushes in the past as anyone would, but never anything more intense than that. She always completely engrossed in balancing politics and responsibilities to ever meddle in anything else. Why slow herself down by looking for a pointless relationship? They are way more important things to be concerned about then any lovey-dovey mushy stuff. At least, that's what Desertrose believes.
Rules. Desertrose can be very mixed and confusing when it comes to the warrior code. At times, she will be very lenient and just turn the other cheek or give a mild warning -- depending on the severity and what kind of fault it was, of course. Other times, she'll be rock solid with the warrior code and lash out harsh words and severe punishments. But supposedly every leader or deputy is like that: letting some things slide and others not so much.
Fighter. Desertrose is a tough, stubborn fighter in both physical and mental. Physical, she has earned respect throughout her clan for being a strong fighter and a swift huntress. Mental, Desertrose is a bit headstrong and will go into some situations head first before fully analyzing the conditions. It is not common for her to back down from a challenge of any sort, even if she knows the odds are against her.
{ H } I S T O R Y:
It was a warm summer day when Sunflight gave birth to two female kittens. The father, Stonedust, named the eldest daughter Desertkit and the mother named the second female Rosekit. This was the young couple's first litter and they were both excited, yet anxious at the same time. They loved each other truly, but consistently argued on how the kits should be raised. Sunflight was more for the compassionate and gentle way, using kind words and allowing the kits to choose who they are and what they become. However, Stonedust wanted to raise his kits with a more firm grasp and higher expectations, using scolding if they ever misbehaved. It irritated Sunflight on how stern Stonedust would be and it aggravated Stonedust on how soft Sunflight was. The two tried to reach a compromise by combing both of what they wanted and it worked, but it still met conflict.
Desertkit and Rosekit weren't the type of siblings that were close with each other. They shared little in common, so it was rare for them to spend much time together. Desertkit favored roughhousing with more of the rowdy kits and often play fight. Rosekit preferred to be more "ladylike" and gossip with her little posse, keeping her paws out of the dirt. Rosekit was also more fragile than Desertkit, and being the youngest, Rosekit often had the favor of her mother. Sunflight of course loved Desertkit, but normally chided on Desertkit for various of things, even things Desertkit didn't commit. Obviously this hurt Desertkit and set her farther apart from her sister.
The older the two sisters became, the more they became rivals. Desertpaw was favored by the mentors, as she performed well on both the fighting and hunting assessments, becoming one of the best apprentices at that time. Rosepaw was favored by almost all the other apprentices, becoming the most popular apprentice among her peers. Desertpaw would try to fit into the group, using her impressive skills to win the attention of others. However, Rosepaw was jealous that her sister was a prodigy among her class and had the favor of their father. She would use her popularity status against Desertpaw and push her further away from the group.
Over the moons of Desertpaw's apprenticeship, things got even worse. Her and Rosepaw fought and argued more and more to the point they had to stay separated. They could no longer train together as Desertpaw always found a way to get too violent. They also couldn't be in camp together as Rosepaw would lash insults and use other apprentices to help gang up on her elder sister. However, they still shared a den, but their mentors made sure one was asleep when the other entered and that one would wake and leave before the other woke. Eventually, everyone got fed up with it and forced Desertpaw and Rosepaw in the same area with guards to prevent them from attacking each other. At first, things looked unsuccessful, but things gradually progressed.
"What? You're jealous of me?! How can you be? You have all the boys swooning over you and more friends you can count for! You can befriend anyone you want or even have any tom you want. Plus, you're Mom's favorite. She lets get away with practically anything and I get the heat for it. You're her little angel and I'm just her troublemaking child! You have nothing to be jealous about. You have it all." "Are you kidding me? You're the one who has it all! You're the best at both hunting and fighting. All the mentors want to have you for an apprentice. My own mentor, Otterfoot, would me for you in a heartbeat! Do you know how many times I've been told to be more like you? All everyone wants to talk about is how great you are. 'Desertpaw this, Desertpaw that!' And you're Dad's favorite! He's always saying of how proud he is of you. He's boasts all the time of how you're the best and that'll you'll probably become leader one day. Only once or twice has he ever said that he's proud of me! So don't you dare say that I have it all!"
Desertpaw and Rosepaw had a strong new bond together after their heated discussion. Things were finally peaceful as they could train and talk together without going for each other's throats. Desertpaw was especially happy that she finally got a relationship with her sister like she always wanted. She was excited when the time approached that they would both become fully fledged warriors in just a matter of days. To celebrate, the two decided to spend their final patrol together as apprentices just a couple of days before the scheduled ceremony.
The weather was rainy and foggy, making it slippery and difficult to see where anything was. Rosepaw and Desertpaw occasionally stumbled slightly over the wet trails. Rosepaw slipped and fell hard enough to take Desertpaw with her. They tumbled violently down a hill, unable to cease their own vicious rolling. By the time Desertpaw reached the bottom of the hill, she was out cold.
Two long days passed and Desertpaw finally awoke from her comatose. It took her awhile before she fully recalled what happened. Once she did, she went frantic find Rosepaw. The medicine cat explained how both Desertpaw and Rosepaw arrived at the den completely battered and unconscious. He stayed up all night doing the best he could to monitor their wellbeing and progress.
"The tumble made a terrible toll, especially on Rose--" "I don't care how terrible the toll was! I know we both got beaten up badly. Just tell me where Rosepaw is already!" "I'm sorry. Her injuries where more severe than yours -- she didn't make it through the night. Rosepaw is dead."
Desertpaw went to a deep depression. It delayed her graduation by almost a entire month. It took her mentor, parents, and her friends to liberate herself from the depression enough to agree to go on with the ceremony. During her ceremony, she interrupted the leader to request that her name be changed with the name "rose" in honor of her sister. The leader approved of the request and Desertrose became the newest warrior of IgnisClan.
Seasons went by and Desertrose was back to her old self, even after her sister's death. She was given an apprentice by the name of Shadepaw. Shadepaw was hyper little character who loved to learn. She constantly pestered Desertrose to train and take her outside of camp. Shadepaw was the type that found it difficult to stay seated and in one place. She always had to be on her feet and move around unceasingly. Desertrose learned a lot of patience since she had to deal with the hyperactive little Shadepaw. Nonetheless, the six moons passed and Shadepaw graduated to become Shadefur: a more calm and mature young warrior.
Rippleheart was getting old and everyone knew it. His mind was still wise and sharp with the years he lived, but his body was no longer able to keep up with the pace like it used to. His movements were getting stiff and unbalanced, plus the stress of being a deputy just made his condition worse. After a talk with Smokestar, Rippleheart gladly relinquished his former title and humbly retired to the elders' den to spend the remainder of his seasons in peace. Smokestar evaluated his warriors and chose Desertrose to become his new deputy.
Being Smokestar's deputy was an honor as he was a great and wise leader. Desertrose served him faithfully ever since she was given the title, but recently things have been tough. Smokestar was losing his edge and his once acute mind that gave off wise and clever words and thoughts was starting to fog. Desertrose and a couple of the senior warriors have tried to convince Smokestar to retire peacefully to the elders den. But Smokestar refused and just kept claiming that he's perfectly fine and still more then capable being leader. That leaves Desertrose to step up and take on more responsibility for the clan.
